October 1 – October 7, 2018

See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
-Hebrews 12:15 (NIV)

Monday, October 1
Heavenly Father, Your beauty and grace come into clear view when we accept that You sent Jesus Christ as our Redeemer. Help us to not allow any roots of bitterness to take hold in our lives, causing discontentment and trouble.

Tuesday, October 2
Pray for the earthquake/tsunami victims in Sulawesi, Indonesia. At the time of this writing (day of the event), the extent of the devastation is not yet known. The closest MAF base is 360 miles away on Tarakan Island, Kalimantan (to the left of white Donggala sign on map, compliments of BBC).

Wednesday, October 3
The MAF Nampa hangar crew has been working on the new amphibious Caravan that is earmarked for Papua, Indonesia. It was dedicated at the President and Board Summit a few weeks ago. Pray for the import permissions to be granted in good time for the upcoming ferry flight.

Thursday, October 4
Lift up Tim and Liz Schandorff, a financial analyst family. Tim provides vital information about MAF finances for field programs and leaders, to ensure wise and godly stewardship of the organization’s funds. Liz is a stay-at-home mom with their two sons. Since they returned from Haiti to the United States, they’ve found it challenging to raise needed support. Please pray that the Lord will bring in the shortfall.

Friday, October 5
MAF remains available to provide flights for those responding to an Ebola outbreak in eastern DRC. We have conducted nine flights to date and carried nine samples for testing (one of which was positive) as well as personnel and cargo. According to the World Health Organization, as of Sept. 24 there have been 120 confirmed cases and 31 probable cases in this outbreak, including 101 deaths.

Saturday, October 6
Lift up Fred and Desiree Schmidt, who have been missionaries with MAF since 1984. The Schmidts began their career as a pilot/mechanic family in Zimbabwe and Botswana. Some of Fred’s other roles include flight instructing, mentoring Ecuadorian pilots, and keeping things flowing for the MAF Shipping and Receiving Department in Nampa. Desi’s newest role is helping students with learning difficulties as an educational therapist.

Sunday, October 7
Pray for Sabato and Laetitia Kwany. Sabato is an IT technician with MAF in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Pray that God will open more opportunities to learn new technologies so they can serve God better. Pray also that the couple can find a house to live in.
