May 19 – May 25, 2020

Sorrow is better than laughter,
for sadness has a refining influence on us.
-Ecclesiastes 7:3 (NIV)

Monday, May 18
Abba Father, as we process our grief and consider our coworkers’ lives lived for You, please conform us into the image of Christ, so that we can know You better.

Tuesday, May 19
On May 12, 2020, at 6:27 a.m., MAF pilot Joyce Lin took off from Sentani, Papua, in an MAF Kodiak-a plane filled with COVID-19 rapid test kits and school supplies, which she was delivering to a remote village. Two minutes into her flight, she sent out a distress call. Her airplane crashed into Lake Sentani and she did not survive. Pray for MAF, especially for her grieving coworkers in Indonesia, and her family in the US.

Wednesday, May 20
Lift up the MAF team in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) as they grieve the passing of Maurice Mvumbi, their program administrator. He joined MAF in 1999, served with the joy of Jesus, integrity, and a big smile. He is survived by his wife, Fideline, and four children. Please remember them in your prayers.

Thursday, May 21
Lift up Chuck and Susan Weatherstone, a pilot/mechanic family who has served in Latin America for over 30 years. Currently they live in South Carolina, where they serve as MAF mobilizers for the US southeast region. Chuck represents MAF at colleges, churches, missions conferences, and airshows to identify those God is calling to serve with MAF.

Friday, May 22
Praise God for technology that allows us to still have team meetings while we are working apart from each other during this unique season. Pray that we will work effectively and with God’s wisdom.

Saturday, May 23
Lift up Brad and Kristian Westom who served with MAF in Africa for 18 years. Brad was a pilot/mechanic and program manager in the DRC, Central African Republic, and Lesotho. Now Brad serves in Nampa, Idaho, as part of the MAF Member Care team. Pray that the Lord will fill him with wisdom as he connects with and encourages MAF staff around the world. Brad’s trip to Africa had to be postponed due to COVID-19. Pray for the Westoms in their planning of a support raising trip to central Texas this summer, if possible.

Sunday, May 24
Pray for the MAF families who are in limbo with summer furlough travel plans on hold due to COVID-19. International travel is not yet allowed. Pray for grace and peace for these families.

  • I had served my Christian Mission in Lesotho, Kingdom in the Sky, by teaching at National University of Lesotho. Thus I can understand and admire how Joyce had devoted herself and sacrificed herself for the Lord and the people of Papua.
I’ll keep Joyce in my prayer, along with her family, co-workers. and the people in Papua.
Shalom and God Bless You All, A-men.
P.S. I have already sent a donation for the Joyce Memorial Fund.
