Sadrac has now become a youth leader himself, and just started working in the front office for MAF-Haiti last month. As a little boy, others began investing in Sadrac’s life. Over the years he has continued to seek God and grow in spiritual maturity, with God placing special people in his life along the way. As I watched the baptisms and sang with my brothers and sisters, I was reminded of Paul’s words to the Corinthian church: “I have planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase (growth).” Isn’t that what being a Christian is about? Planting, watering, watching, and waiting expectantly for God to grow that seed in someone’s heart? Whose life have you been pouring into? Are you continuing to water that seed, watching and waiting with anticipation for God to give the increase?
Throughout our lives, Michael and I have felt called to mentor and equip young people in their walk with the Lord. Since coming to Haiti, that passion for seeing young people fall deeper in love with God hasn’t changed. Today I watched as five youth from our church were baptized. With songs of praise, shouts of joy, and grateful hearts, our church witnessed each one make a public profession of their faith. Even more special for me was watching Sadrac, one of the young men we’ve worked closely with, embrace and pray with Zachary (who was just baptized).
God gave me that reminder today… He isn’t finished with me. He still has lives that He wants to impact through me. He still wants to “give the increase” in my life, too. I continue to need others who are more spiritually mature to invest in me. There is always room for me to grow and learn. And as God gives the increase in my life, His love and grace spills over into the lives of others.
